This is my why?!

Our daughter Skylar sustained a Serious Severe Brain Injury on the 13/09/22 at Birth.

Skylar spent 1 month in the NICU @ The Royal Hospital in Brisbane then a Month in Sunshine Coast. The first year of her life I lost count of how many hospital visits and ambulance rides we had with her.  Every 2-6 Weeks we were back to the hospital.

 

Skylar requires 24/7 care and airway management due to her oromotor dysfunction which means she cannot manage her airway by herself.

From the beginning of our journey with Skylar I dedicated myself to leaving no stone unturned, long story short I came across Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy. It was stressful thinking about the alternatives, the closest medical grade hyperbaric chamber was the Gold Coast and she would need continual treatment over years. There was also the logistical nightmare of the cost of accommodation and travelling with carers which was impossible for us so I went searching. I was able to find a chamber that we could operate from the inside and still be able to take Skylar‘s suction pump in with her to manage her airway. We spent all our savings purchasing this for our girl. Skylar has now completed nearly 50 dives and the results speak for themselves.

 

She has developed a strong gag and cough which makes it easier for her to manage her airway. She has been able to resume therapies is even taking assisted steps and standing. Skylar has also demonstrated more cognitive ability with gaze and tracking. She is more interactive with everyone chatting away and seems to take more in. Her head and trunk control has improved immensely. Seizure free for over 6 months with HBOT / Supplements, Skylar has also been weaned off every medication except her CBD and is generally a much happier child. We noticed the biggest difference within the first 10 dives at 1.4 ATA. This is exactly why we created this space, because we all have the capacity to be better given the opportunities.
